A Home of My Own
As the enormity of the coronavirus crisis began to emerge, we asked the question: ‘How do you stay home when you have no home?’ We worked tirelessly to rapidly find accommodation for people who were sleeping rough in Watford.
Over 80 vulnerable people were accommodated in temporary accommodation, including the Travelodge on Exchange Road. Thank you to everyone who responded so swiftly and generously to our Coronavirus Crisis Appeal to help cover the costs of supporting people who are in temporary accommodation.
But then another question quickly arose: ‘What is going to happen when lockdown ends?’ We don’t want to see anyone return to life on the streets, especially as so many people have started to recover from the physical and mental traumas of homelessness. To have to go back to rough sleeping would be absolutely heartbreaking.
We are now focusing our efforts and energies on helping people move into more permanent accommodation, ensuring that each person moves into the most suitable accommodation for their needs. But we need your help again so that we can provide people with deposits for flats and basic furniture and household items, alongside intensive advocacy and support from staff.
We have this extraordinary opportunity, during such an awful time, to help people have not just a home but a new life full of hope and purpose.
Let's make this moment count and do what we can to give people 'A Home of their Own'.
