Many companies contact us asking to fundraise or volunteer. Here are some ways to help.
Volunteering
Breakfast at the Haven
We are looking for groups of 2 individuals to come and cook breakfast at the Haven from 7.45am to 11am. We ask that where possible, any corporate volunteers bring the ingredients needed to make the hot breakfast, as this provision is both an extremely valuable help and enables you to make the breakfast service your own. Corporate help is most needed on Mondays and Wednesdays, although other days might also work - please do ask. More details about what to bring can be given, please just ask.
Recently a team volunteered at the Haven drop-in and said:
We served hot breakfast options and met a number of homeless and clearly very vulnerable individuals, and I felt truly honoured to watch the Support Workers as they welcomed everyone by name and knew their history. We had stocked up the food that we may take for granted, but for the individuals we were cooking for, it might have been their first hot meal (or any type of meal) in days. It was really humbling to hear conversations around the room.
“Where did you sleep last night mate?” “The usual” “The park” “Yeah”
Unfortunately, we can only offer one parking space at the site (and most roads around there are permit-only). There is a car park near by: https://citipark.co.uk/car-parks/watford/gade-car-park
Dinner at the Emergency Accommodation
We are looking for groups of 2-3 individuals to come and cook the evening meal at the Emergency Accommodation. Volunteers would need to arrive at about 4.40pm and the meal would be served at 6.30pm. We ask that where possible, any corporate volunteers bring the ingredients needed to make the meal, as this provision is both an extremely valuable help and enables you to make the meal your own. More details about what to bring can be given, please just ask.
Decorating
We occasionally have opportunities for groups to decorate part of our services. We ask that you provide the paint and all decorating materials please and that the volunteers are skilled at decorating!
Help with our Christmas appeal
Could you and your colleagues give up an hour of your time to deliver our Christmas Appeal postcards to homes in the local area? It’s a simple but effective way of spreading the word about New Hope and raising the funds we need to run our crucial services.
If these options are not suitable, please visit the website of the Chamber of Conscience, organised by Watford Chamber of Commerce or W3RT. They are also able to help find opportunities in Watford for larger groups of corporate volunteers.
Fundraising
Please take a look at our fundraising page for ideas on how you and your colleagues could help or get in touch with us. We’d love to talk to you!
Giving
If you would like to make a donation, please use our online form or contact us for details of how to make a bank transfer.
If you would like to give food, toiletries or other items, please have a look at our gifts page.
