Volunteer Befriender - Recovery Services Accommodation

Hours: We need volunteers every day from Monday to Sunday for 4-hour shifts: 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm

Frequency: We would greatly appreciate any day and shift on which you can offer your time!

Location: New Hope House, Central Watford

New Hope’s Recovery Service offers residents a safe and supportive environment in which to begin their recovery from alcohol or substance addiction. Residents are supported 24 hours a day by on-site staff and have access to weekly Alcoholics and Cocaine Anonymous meetings as well as wellbeing support from New Hope’s Cultivate service.

We are looking for compassionate befriender volunteers for our residents during their first 28 days at our Recovery Service Accommodation. As a befriender, you will spend a few hours each week with residents, helping them build confidence, encouraging them to engage with hobbies or new interests, and accompanying them outside the accommodation. You may be helping different residents each week, depending on who most needs support.

Volunteers must be aged 18 years or over; be able to commit to a regular schedule of volunteering; be able to follow instructions and work within a set of guidelines. Befrienders must adhere to confidentiality rules at all times; respect the dignity and privacy of service users and liaise with staff to share relevant information. Online training for the role will be provided.
