Women's Census

Women are under-represented in rough sleeping statistics and provision. Yet, research, lived experience, and the experiences of services tell us that women are some of the most vulnerable within the rough sleeping population.

That’s why Solace and the Single Homeless Project, together with a coalition of homelessness and women’s sector organisations and local authorities, now conduct a census of women sleeping rough. The Women’s Rough Sleeping Census started on 23rd September and lasted for a week.

The census aims to bring visibility to the experiences of women who are rough sleeping and may not be represented in data, policy or services.

New Hope hosted an event for @Watford Council on Thursday at @oneymca as part of the women’s census. The event included Haircuts for Homeless and Mind.

The women’s group I attended was very uplifting! My close friend in the house was having quite a low day but spending a couple of hours talking with staff and having a bit of a pampering from lovely hairstyle ladies plus a very funny conversation about menopause!! We left smiling! Well done, staff! We appreciate you all and the goodie bags!

I enjoyed the pampering session very much! It was lovely seeingh so many women come together. I do think this should be done regularly for women and something for men as well.
