In From the Cold - Christmas Appeal Update
Thank you so much to everyone who gave to In From the Cold, our Christmas appeal. Over £40,000 was given to help people experiencing homelessness in Watford! The money raised is going to help fund the work at the Haven so Rebecca Palmer, Fundraising and Communications Manager, popped down there last Thursday morning (when it was still -3 degrees) to film this short video.
On average the Haven helps 15 people a month with a new case of homelessness. In December, this included two women who had fled domestic violence, a man recently released from prison, two people evicted from their accommodation, and someone who was sofa surfing.
The team was able to help some of these people into the additional winter accommodation provided by New Hope and One YMCA, enabled one person to access Watford Borough Council's crisis accommodation, and referred two people back to their local areas where they would be able to access appropriate accommodation.
30 different individuals received hot breakfasts and packed lunches from the staff and volunteers at the Haven in December and we are seeing similar numbers in need this month.
The team at the Haven is so grateful for everyone's donations and are encouraged by the support we receive from the local community. Thank you to all who gave!
