The Watford Charity Shop is 25 years young!
New Hope celebrates 25 years of its Watford charity shop this month. First situated at 87 Queens Road, the shop first opened in November 1993 to raise funds for the charity’s Haven Support Centre based in Whippendell Road. Relocating further along Queens Road in order to expand, the shop can now be found at number 67.
The shop, run by longstanding volunteer manager, Polly Odbert, brings in on average £200,000 each year to fund the charity’s work with people experiencing homelessness in Watford.
Alison Bowyer, the charity’s Head of Resources, said: ‘The shop has a lovely community feel. Polly and her team of volunteers do a great job of welcoming customers as well as generating funds for New Hope’s work in Watford. We’d like to say a special thank you to the volunteers who have been with us since the beginning, including Polly, Linda Leaver and Alison Bishop.’
