Abseil-utely amazing!
On Saturday 27th June, twenty-eight people abseiled down the 80ft bell tower of St Mary’s Church in Watford as part of our sponsored abseil. Participants had been raising sponsorship in the run-up to the event and have collected over £9,500 between them so far.
Some participants dressed up to take part and outfits included Superman, a camel and a chicken with the Reverend Daniel McCarthy of St Martin’s Church, Shenley descending the rope in his liturgical vestments.
Watford Town Councillor Michael Haley took part and said, “The experience has been fantastic and not just because I abseiled off one of Watford’s iconic buildings. For me it was about raising the profile of New Hope and ensuring there are enough funds for the places that are needed for homeless people in this borough.”
