Gains at the Garden
On Saturday 23rd May, we held our most successful Community Market Garden Open Day.
The bi-annual Open Day offers a family-friendly day out with poetry readings, musical performances, storytelling (Storyteller, Louise Bland pictured), arts and crafts and more. Plants and refreshments were available for a donation, and this time we also had a make-your-own hanging basket workshop with baskets supplied by Affinity Water, whose Water Saving Squad were present giving out water saving devices and tips.
The Open Day raised £1,169.67 through donations given for plants and children’s creative activities. This is more than any previous open day and will go towards our work with people who are homeless or vulnerably-housed in and around Watford.
Chief Executive, Matthew Heasman, said: "We obviously can’t allow people in to have a look at the night shelter so this is the ideal opportunity to welcome people to come and look at what we do.
"The garden is a therapeutic environment for our service users who were right at the heart of the open day, serving teas and leading workshops.
"We were blessed with fine weather, hundreds of people turned up during the day and we took about £1,000 in donations so it was a great success all round."
