Give & Gain Day!

Friday 15th May is Business in the Community’s Give and Gain Day which annually sees thousands of people across the globe volunteer in community organisations, social enterprises and schools.

Give and Gain Day is the UK’s only national day of employee volunteering and it is now in its seventh year. It is a celebration of the incredible power of company volunteering and it champions the talent and energy found in business and the role it can play in helping communities prosper.

This year New Hope benefitted from Give and Gain Day in the form of a group of volunteers from Towers Watson, a global professional services company with an office in Welwyn Garden City, at our Community Market Garden.

The timing of Towers Watson’s visit couldn’t have been more perfect. The Community Market Garden May Open Day is eight days away and we needed help with getting the garden in good shape ready for our open day visitors.

Not only did the team from Towers Watson help us with weeding and maintaining, they also bought and fitted three fence panels to replace rotten ones at the back of the garden and tins of paint to help spruce up a bench.

The team were so enthusiastic and up for a challenge that they also built a table out of an old pallet and some left over wood from a previous project.

A huge thank you to Towers Watson for their generous donation of materials and for helping us to get the garden ‘tip-top’ for the open day.
